What is the difference between DHEA and DHEAS

DHEA is dehydroepiandrosterone and DHEAS is dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate. They are very similar molecules, DHEAS just has an extra sulfate molecule attached to it. DHEAS is the most common steroid androgen in the bodies of both men and women.

DHEAS can be converted to DHEA by an enzyme that is naturally produced by our bodies called steroid sulfatase (STS). Conversely, DHEA can be transformed back into DHEAS. DHEA can eventually be converted into testosterone and ultimately into dihydrotestosterone through the complex steroid metabolism system. DHEA is produced in the gonads (ovaries, testes) and the adrenal glands in men and women.
