Why do I have kinked pubic type hair on my head

A sub-population of men and women with androgenetic alopecia find that the quality of remaining hair significantly changes.

Most frequently the remaining terminal hair takes on a pubic hair-like appearance with a kinked look to it. It may also become more resistant to styling and be less manageable using a standard daily hair car routine.

Some dermatologists call this condition "acquired progressive kinking" of the hair and they suspect it is an androgen related disorder. Androgen hormones are binding hormone receptors in the hair follicles and causing mild disruption to the production of new hair fiber. This results in rather coarse and unruly hair. Sometimes the acquired progressive kinking occurs without hair loss.

Approaches to treatment are the same as for pattern baldness. Reduction of androgen levels, blocking of 5 alpha reductase activity, and/or direct hair follicle growth stimulation using minoxidil.
