What
are the side effects of diazoxide
Common side effects include; decreased urination, swelling of feet
or lower legs, rapid weight gain, fast heartbeat, hyoglycemia, hyperglycemia.
Rare side effects include; chest pain caused by exercise or activity,
mental confusion, numbness of the hands, any unexplained shortness
of breath.
Fever, skin rash, stiffness of arms or legs, trembling and shaking
of hands and fingers, unusual bleeding or bruising.
When you are taking diazoxide, it is especially important that
your doctor knows if you are taking any of the following. Use of
any of these medicines with diazoxide may cause low blood pressure.
- Amantadine (e.g., Symmetrel)
- Antidepressants (medicine for depression)
- Antihypertensives (high blood pressure medicine)
- Antipsychotics (medicines for mental illness)
- Bromocriptine (e.g., Parlodel)
- Cyclandelate (e.g., Cyclospasmol)
- Deferoxamine (e.g., Desferal)
- Diuretics (water pills)
- Hydralazine (e.g., Apresoline)
- Isoxsuprine (e.g., Vasodilan)
- Levobunolol (e.g., Betagan)
- Levodopa (e.g., Dopar)
Medicines for heart disease
- Metipranolol (e.g., OptiPranolol)
- Nabilone (e.g., Cesamet)
Narcotic pain medicines
- Nicotinyl alcohol (e.g., Roniacol)
- Nimodipine (e.g., Nimotop)
- Nylidrin (e.g., Arlidin)
- Papaverine (e.g., Pavabid)
- Pentamidine (e.g., Pentam)
- Pimozide (e.g., Orap)
- Promethazine (e.g., Phenergan)
- Timolol (e.g., Timoptic)
- Trimeprazine (e.g., Temaril)
Any of the medicines below and diazoxide may be less effective
if they are taken at the same time
- Ethotoin (e.g., Peganone)
- Mephenytoin (e.g., Mesantoin)
- Phenytoin (e.g., Dilantin)
