What
are the side effects of saw palmetto
Adverse events reported when taking Saw palmetto are largely gastrointestinal
such as nausea and abdominal pain. My own experimentation with saw
palmetto showed these side effects are most likely to occur when
taking saw palmetto without food. If taken after a meal the side
effects were significantly reduced. Saw palmetto is well tolerated
by the majority of people.
The vast majority of people taking Saw Palmetto have no apparent
adverse side effects. It is tolerated very well and this has been
confirmed during clinical investigations using Saw Palmetto to treat
begign prostate hyperplasia. Saw Palmetto, as a 5 alpha reductase
inhibitor may, in theory, have significant side effects for any
woman pregnant with a male child. See the side effects for finasteride
(Propecia) which is also a 5 alpha reductase inhibitor for details.
