Spiral
hair
Spiral or circle hairs are very tightly coiled with the coils
one on top of another like a spring. The coils have a diameter of
one to three millimeters and are frequently ingrowing hairs. They
are found just beneath the skin and can be scratched out with a
fingernail. When the hair is pulled out springs back into its original
shape.
Spiral hairs are a common phenomenon and are especially found in
middle aged men. In one survey 16 of 100 men were observed to have
spiral hairs. They are most frequently found on the back, abdomen
and thighs. They do not indicate any disease or treatable condition.
