Nevoid
hypertrichosis
Nevoid (or in Europe; naevoid) hypertrichosis is an unusual disorder
consisting of a solitary circumscribed area of terminal hair growth
which is not usually associated with any other systemic abnormalities.
It is frequently a congenital disorder but occasionally individuals
may develop nevoid hypertrichosis later in life.
Sometimes nevoid hypertrichosis can develop in more than one area
of skin on the same individual. The patches of terminal hair growth
can occur anywhere on the body from the neck or legs to the palms
of the hands. People who develop the condition are otherwise healthy
and generally do not have any other associated disorder. There is
no known cause or treatment for nevoid hypertrichosis other than
to shave or depilate the affected area.
